Fall goose migration
As the fall temperatures drop, and a thin sheen of ice forms on our lakes and ponds, we begin to observe the annual migration of geese through Iowa. Some of these geese nested here over the summer, while others nested further north and fly through Iowa on the way to their wintering grounds. And, yes, some even stay in Iowa throughout the winter, if open water can be found. But, no matter where they came from or where they’re going, late fall is the best time to observe geese here in Iowa.
