Undefeated Humboldt Wildcats have local ties

Derrick Elman, a native of Buffalo Center and a 1999 graduate of North Iowa High School, leads the Humboldt Wildcats as head coach this Saturday to play in the 3A Semifinals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. It has been 15 years since the team’s last trip to the Dome, and the undefeated Wildcats play the Harlan Cyclones at 7 p.m. This is Elman’s fourth year as head coach, and he also was named the 2020 Class 3A region 1 Football Coach of the Year. Derrick is the son of Terry and Joyce Elman and also the grandson of the late Merlyn and Betty Elman of Buffalo Center.
