North Iowa High School students will perform three pieces at the individual State speech contest this Thursday in Lake Mills, as Thomas Hughes, left, and Bailee Garst both earned “I” ratings to advance at the District contest held February 27. Garst earned top ratings for her prose piece, titled “The Blue Dress,” by Reginald Gibbons. She also received top marks for her poetry piece, which featured the Robert Frost poems “Not to Keep” and “The Lovely Shall be Choosers”. Hughes received a “I” rating for his individual improv performance. The State contest is scheduled to begin at 6:25 p.m.
