A persistent fire thwarted multiple attempts by firefighters to save a house south of Buffalo Center last week.
The first fire call came in at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2 for a house located at 40427 20th Ave. Buffalo Center, Rake, and Thompson firefighters arrived to find the front roofline of the one-story house was on fire. Buffalo Center Fire Chief Duane Cooper says the occupants of the house heard the smoke alarm and got out safely. The firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading to the rest of the house and extinguished the blaze by about 7 a.m.
