COVID-19 numbers for March 2-8
COVID-19 activity has slowed considerably in northern Iowa, one year after the illness was first reported in the state. The past week saw just five new cases identified in Winnebago County, with 2% of tests coming back positive. This brings the overall total of positive tests in the county to 1,396.
In Kossuth County, the number of new cases fell to single digits, with eight positive tests conducted between March 2-8. The 7-day positivity rate was 2%, and 2,095 positive tests have been recorded in Kossuth County since the pandemic began.
Winnebago and Kossuth counties each reported one new death linked to COVID-19, as the total in Winnebago County is 31, and the total in Kossuth County is 55.
Vaccination numbers for the local counties show a large jump in the number of people receiving their second dose of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, as Gov. Kim Reynolds says the state corrected a record keeping error that undercounted people getting their second shot.
In Winnebago County, the state reports 1,193 individuals have received their first dose of a vaccine, and 801 have received their second dose. In Kossuth County, 1,950 people have received their first dose, and 1,248 have received their second dose.
