Steven Christ
Steven Wayne Christ, age 66, of Storm Lake, died January 7, 2024 at UnityPoint St. Luke’s in Sioux City. Funeral services will take place Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Steve was born in Algona to Eugene and Kathryn (Schutter) Christ, baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Lakota, where he and his three siblings, David, Carol and Daniel, grew up on a dairy farm. Thus, his love of farming began. He would often be helping on the farm, gaining a specialized interest in mechanics and cars.
Steve graduated from Lakota Consolidated School District in 1976 and then went on to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge to study mechanics, graduating in 1978.
In 1982, he met his wife, Rebekah (Lullman) of Albert City, and they married in September of 1983 at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Together, they welcomed two children into the world, Kyle and Kayla. For just over 20 years, he worked the night shift at Bobalee in Laurens, making hydraulic cylinders. Later in their marriage, he and Becky were able to continue his love of farming by purchasing the land surrounding their home.
He was always stronger than everyone thought. In July of 2012, Steve was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, spending each weekday of September by himself in Rochester, MN for treatment. He would come home and return each weekend that month. In 2013, he was blessed with remission for the rest of his days.
After his cancer journey, he fulfilled his love of travel while still providing for his family through trucking. He always had time for people he met, often making those around him feel better. In 2023, Steve retired from trucking and found joy in his family and friends. He and Becky would often travel to see their kids’ and grandchildren’s events, as well as go on adventures with friends and family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Rebekah (Becky) Christ, children Kyle (Tina) Christ of Omaha, Kayla (Tyler) Reetz of Storm Lake, grandchildren Dakota (Anna) Leonard of Omaha, Kaleb Christ, Jeremiah Christ, Taryn Christ, and great-grandchild Beckett Leonard, sister Carol (Carl) Roberts of Belmond, brother Daniel (Angela) Christ of Lakota, sister-in law Donna Christ of Lakota, and aunt Margaret Ryan of El Reno, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Kathryn Christ, brother David Christ, aunts, uncles and two cousins.
