Spectator limits still in place at North Iowa

Schools in the Top of Iowa Conference will continue to limit spectators at sporting events for the time being, after Governor Kim Reynolds dialed back statewide restrictions last week.

North Iowa Activities Director Meggon Jacobs says conference schools will be sticking with the lanyard pass/household system they’ve been using until further notice. Currently, anyone living in the same household as an athlete may attend their games, or the athlete may invite two guests who will each need to wear a lanyard pass.

Last week’s proclamation by the governor allows unlimited fans, but groups are still required to sit at least six feet apart from one another. Jacobs says it is very difficult for schools to manage an unknown number of fans at each game while maintaining social distancing, so that’s why they’re sticking with the current system for now.

“Our first priority continues to be keeping the students safe so they can finish out their season,” said Jacobs.
